What does it cost to have a website built in 2026?

Honest numbers for a freelancer, an agency and a website builder, what is and is not included, and the costs nobody mentions up front.

Ask ten web designers what a site costs and you get ten answers, from four hundred to twenty thousand euros. That is not because one is cheating and the other is not. It is because "a website" can mean anything. Below are the amounts that are common in the Netherlands in 2026, and what you get for them.

The three ways to get a site

  • Build it yourself with a website builder (Wix, Squarespace, Jouwweb): €15 to €40 a month, forever. After three years you have paid more than a built site, and the site is never yours.
  • A freelancer: €800 to €3,000 one-off for an ordinary business site. Often without copy, without Google setup, and with a freelancer who does something else two years from now.
  • An agency: €2,500 to €5,000 for the same site, with a project manager, a designer and a developer. Pleasant, but you pay for the office.

What is usually not included

The quote says "website", but always check whether these are in: the copy (often "to be supplied by the client", and then the project stalls), the photos, the Google setup, the connection to your domain, and the aftercare in the first month. Each of those can cost hundreds of euros extra if it is not included.

Recurring costs

A domain name costs €10 to €20 a year. Hosting €5 to €15 a month for a simple site. Maintenance, if you outsource it, €35 to €55 a month. That last one is the difference between a site that is still correct after a year and a site with last year's prices on it.

What we charge, and why

At Scrollvio one page costs €499 and a business site €1,750, fixed and one-off. Copy, imagery and Google setup are included, and the site is yours. That is below the freelancer rate, because we work fast with a fixed approach, and we add a money-back guarantee. You can add hosting and security for €19.99 a month, or changes (including hosting and security) for €49.99 a month, both cancellable monthly.

The question to ask yourself

Not "what does it cost", but "what does it bring in". A site that brings in one extra customer a month pays for itself within a few months at almost any business. A site that looks cheap costs you customers every month that you never see.

Rather have it done?
